Jenny Sawer is a dynamic force in the world of blues and roots music, drawing vocal inspiration from the rich legacies of iconic artists such as Nina Simone, Annie Lennox, and Joni Mitchell. Her flexible, powerful voice, improvisatory skills; emotive storytelling and rhythmic acoustic guitar will captivate you and invite you to harmonise!
With a BMus (1st Class Honours) from the ANU School of Music in Canberra, Jenny possesses a deep understanding of musicality that informs her songwriting; performance and vocal coach philosophy. She studied both operatic singing and musicology with a focus in ethnomusicology exploring her passion “vocal timbre”.
Jenny gigs as a soloist regularly throughout Australia and is actively involved in multiple musical projects that further illustrate her breadth as an artist.
As a member of Agency Dub Collective, she explores the fusion of genres with exciting vocal effects, while her work with Run Like Hell: Pink Floyd Tribute Australia has seen her touring NSW and VIC to great reviews.
Jenny fronts the pop dance band Parallel Lines and provides backing vocals for the Eric Clapton tribute band Slowhand featuring the virtuosic guitarist Chris Harland.
You can see Jenny performing as a classical soloist with choirs such as A Chorus of Women and SCUNA.
Jenny teaches privately and at Canberra Girls Grammar Senior school. She currently has a waiting list, but please contact her with your enquiry about lessons and she will email you some information.
She also plays piano, cello, composes and conducts. Jenny leads the contemporary vocal group The Decibelles at CGGS and is assistant conductor for Tim Bevitt's community choirs based at Ainslie Arts Centre. Jenny was Assistant Musical Director with Canberra QWIRE and Assistant Conductor for The Cyrenes for several years.
